Here are some online marketing statistics from The Inbound Marketing University to show how imperative it is that you get your online marketing campaigns up and running as soon as possible because Social Media for business is mighty:

1. It is predicted that — by 2014 — approximately 165 million people will be using social networks. This includes 55+ and older age groups. Approximately 57% of 55-64 year olds will be on social networks and 38% of 65+. All age groups are growing in the social networks at an extremely rapid pace.
2. By 2013, it is estimated there will be 142 million blog readers in the US.
3. As of February 2010, 33% of all Facebook users were fans of a brand.
4. According to a March 2010 survey, 41% of Facebook brand fans said they were fans of the brand to let their friends and family know what products they support. 50% of all sales are researched online prior to purchase. 40% of those researching products before they buy trust family and friends advice above all other reviews. These people are all using social media for business.
5. 54% of US Consumers are more likely to purchase a product in-store after receiving a marketing e-mail.
6. 42% of mobile phone owners ages 18-34 would be interested in receiving text alerts from marketers.
7. 37% of female social networkers have fallen asleep with their PDA.
8. 34% of female social networkers check Facebook first thing in the morning.
9. An average of 43% of companies using social networks have acquired a customer from Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, or their blog. Social Media works for business.
10. YouTube currently reports that hundreds of millions of videos are viewed per day. YouTube mobile receives more than 100 million views per day.
11. I have to add one more in here for good measure. Search engines have admitted that your social authority is included in part of their algorithm when it comes to determining page rank of your website.
The longer you wait to begin your inbound marketing strategy, the longer it will take to catch up to the ones who have already begun.
